Happy Nordic Living Oy participated in the international conference “Safe, Sustainable, and Swift Reconstruction of Ukraine”, held in Lviv on March 19–20, 2026. The company was represented by CEO Timo Mikkonen and General Counsel Glenn Kolleeny.

The conference brought together international experts, public authorities, and industry players to discuss Ukraine’s reconstruction, with a focus on circular materials, infrastructure, urban planning, and regulatory frameworks.

A key takeaway was the urgent need for scalable and rapidly deployable housing solutions. This aligns closely with HNL’s strategy to develop an industrial, factory-based timber construction platform capable of delivering housing at scale in a predictable and efficient manner.

The event also enabled direct discussions with key stakeholders, strengthening our understanding of market dynamics and supporting our ongoing regional assessment in Western Ukraine, with the aim of preparing first pilot projects.

Based on my professional background (10 years at Kuusakoski Oy leading recycling operations in Russia and CIS), I paid particular attention to construction waste utilisation. Ukraine is facing massive volumes of demolition waste, and presentations highlighted a clear shift towards a “debris-to-resource” approach – transforming concrete, metals, and other materials into new construction inputs. Key themes included efficient sorting, local recycling hubs, and emerging technologies.

Overall, it is evident that a significant new market is emerging for professional construction waste recycling and material management in Ukraine. For international recycling companies, the message is clear: now is the time to explore the market and contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
